If you are searching for a locksmith Banbury way, we cover the OX15 villages to the south and west of the town, including Bloxham, Hook Norton, Deddington, Sibford Ferris, Sibford Gower and Wroxton, 24 hours a day. We drive from North Oxford, so we usually arrive in 40 to 55 minutes. A daytime lockout is £59 to £79 plus £20 travel, and you get the full price on the phone before we leave.
Banbury town itself is OX16, and we cover it too, but this page is about the villages, where honey-coloured ironstone cottages, farms and barn conversions need a different approach from a town semi.
A straight answer about distance
We are not based in Banbury
Our base is at 169 Woodstock Road in Oxford. For a lockout where every minute counts, a locksmith already in Banbury may reach you sooner, and that might be the better call. Where we suit OX15 well is planned work and calls where a fixed, upfront price matters more than shaving ten minutes off the wait.
When you ring, we tell you the travel charge, the price of the job and a realistic arrival window for your village. If anything about the job changes once we are there, we stop and agree it with you before carrying on.

Old ironstone cottages and the locks on their doors
The villages west of Banbury are built from the local brown and golden ironstone, and Hornton gave its name to one of the best-known varieties. Many cottages are listed, some are thatched, and most still have solid oak or ledged and braced doors.
On those doors we usually find a thumb latch for everyday use, an old rim lock or box lock with a big key, and sometimes nothing that would satisfy an insurer. The usual fix is to fit a BS3621 5-lever mortice deadlock, or a British Standard rim deadlock where the door is too thin to take a mortice. We leave the old latch and ironwork in place so the door looks as it always has.
If the only key to an old box lock has been lost, it can often be opened and a new key made rather than replacing a lock that suits the door. That is a lock repair at £55 to £85, no fix no fee. See our mortice lock page for more on sizes and standards.
Barn conversions, farms and outbuildings
OX15 has a lot of converted barns and working farms. Barn conversions bring large glazed doors, French doors and bi-folds, where a patio door lock repair or upgrade is the common job, from £85 to £125 plus the lock. Farms bring padlocks on sheds, fuel stores and field gates, and outbuilding doors with hasps and staples.
We open or remove padlocks once you can show the property is yours, and can supply a keyed-alike set so one key opens every gate and shed. Gate locks and bolts are covered on our gate lock page.
Holiday cottages, key safes and owners who live elsewhere
Being on the edge of the Cotswolds, the OX15 villages have their share of holiday cottages and second homes. Those bring a particular set of calls: guests who cannot open a key safe because the code was changed, a lost key after a weekend let, or an owner a long way away who needs the locks changed between bookings.
We can open the door, then rekey the lock so the lost key no longer works, at £45 to £65 per lock. If you manage the property remotely, we can agree the job by phone and send a photo of the finished work with the itemised invoice. For an owner who wants to stop handing out physical keys, a keypad lock is another option, fitted for £145 to £195 plus the keypad. Our keypad door lock page compares the types.
Newer homes in Bloxham and Deddington
Bloxham and Deddington have both grown, with new estates added around the older village cores. These houses have composite or uPVC doors with multipoint locks and a euro cylinder. In the first few years doors often need adjusting as the house settles, and the builder’s standard cylinder is worth upgrading to TS007 3-star anti-snap at £95 to £135 plus the cylinder.
Because of the travel charge, it makes sense to bundle work. If you are booking a cylinder upgrade, ask us to check the back door, garage and window locks in the same visit.
Locked out in a Banbury village: what to do while we drive
- Check every door and window once. Older cottages often have a back door or stable door that was left on the latch.
- Ask a neighbour or key holder. In a village, someone often has a spare.
- Call us with your postcode. We quote the full price including £20 travel and give a time window.
- Find shelter. A neighbour, the pub or your car. We call when we are close.
- If anyone vulnerable is inside, or a hob or bath is running, call 999 first.
The full checklist is in our guide on what to do when locked out of your house.
Car keys around Banbury and neighbouring areas
Country lanes mean everyone drives, and losing the only car key in a village with no bus is a real problem. We cut and program keys at the car, from £90 for a spare and from £170 when all keys are lost, after checking the V5C and your ID. Details on our auto locksmith page.
Nearby areas: Chipping Norton OX7 to the south west, Bicester OX26 to the south east, Brackley NN13 over the Northamptonshire border to the east, and Kidlington OX5 on the way up. The full list is on our areas we cover page.
