Dave Oxford Locksmith is a 24 hour locksmith for Wallingford and the OX10 villages, usually arriving in 30 to 45 minutes from our North Oxford base, with daytime lockouts from £59 and travel usually £10. We open doors without damage wherever possible and agree the whole price on the phone before leaving.

Our OX10 work runs from the listed houses on the High Street and St Mary’s Street to the Fairmile flats in Cholsey, homes around RAF Benson, the riverside in Crowmarsh Gifford and the estates at Berinsfield. Dorchester on Thames, Brightwell cum Sotwell and Shillingford are covered too.

Wallingford and the Villages of OX10

Wallingford is one of the best preserved Saxon towns in England. Its grid of streets still sits inside the old earth ramparts, which survive as the Kinecroft and the Bull Croft, with the castle ruins and the long medieval bridge over the Thames on the eastern edge. OX10 then fans out across both banks of the river.

The postcode sits in South Oxfordshire rather than the Vale, and borders Didcot to the west. If you are in Didcot, Harwell or Blewbury, our Didcot OX11 locksmith page is the one for you.

How Quickly We Reach Wallingford, Cholsey and Benson

From 169 Woodstock Road we cross to the southern ring road and pick up the A4074 at the Kennington end. It runs past Nuneham Courtenay, around Berinsfield and through Shillingford before reaching the Wallingford bypass. That is around 13 miles from central Oxford, and the road is mostly single carriageway, so a slow lorry makes a real difference.

Locks for Listed and Timber Framed Homes in Wallingford

A large share of the houses inside the ramparts are listed, and many on the High Street, St Martin’s Street and around the Market Place have shops below and homes above. Front doors are often original or very old, with rim locks, nightlatches and mortice locks that have been patched over generations.

On these doors we avoid drilling or cutting new holes wherever there is another way. Most lockouts can be opened non destructively, worn latches can usually be repaired, and if your insurer wants a BS3621 5 lever mortice we fit it into the existing pocket where possible. For doors in a conservation area, keeping the original furniture matters, and we will tell you if a change might need consent.

Flooding and swollen doors

Homes near the river in Wallingford, Crowmarsh and Shillingford can see doors swell after wet winters or high water. A latch that suddenly will not catch is often the timber, not the lock. We ease and adjust the door first, which is cheaper than a new lock.

Cholsey, Benson and Berinsfield Are Not Like the Town

Outside Wallingford the housing changes a lot, and so do the jobs.

Cholsey. The old Fairmile hospital buildings have been converted into flats and houses, which means communal entrance doors, door entry systems and mailbox locks as well as flat front doors. The rest of the village mixes older cottages near the church, where Agatha Christie is buried, with newer estates.

Benson. RAF Benson brings a steady turnover of service families and rented homes, plus a growing area of new builds. Lock changes when people move in and out are common. Our lock rekey service is a cheaper alternative to new locks when only the keys need changing.

Berinsfield. A post war village built on a former wartime airfield, with mostly 1950s and 1960s houses now fitted with uPVC doors. Worn multipoint gearboxes and dropped doors are the typical repairs here. See our uPVC door lock replacement page.

Dorchester on Thames. Timber framed and stone cottages along the High Street near the Abbey, with the same careful approach as Wallingford old town.

Market Place Shops and Small Businesses

Wallingford’s centre is full of independent shops, cafes and offices in old buildings, many with a timber shopfront at the front and a narrow yard door at the back. The back door is usually the weak point, and it is often where a lost key causes the most trouble at opening time.

We handle shop and office lockouts from £89 to £129, change locks when staff leave, fit keypad locks on staff doors and repair tired closers on heavy old doors. Our commercial locksmith page covers master key systems for businesses with several doors, and we always confirm you have authority to open the premises. Heading north east from Wallingford, the next market town we cover is Thame in OX9, and south east along the A4130 past Nettlebed we also reach Henley on Thames in RG9.

Do You Cover Goring and Streatley?

Goring sits just over the Oxfordshire side of the Goring Gap and Streatley faces it across the river in Berkshire, both under the RG8 postcode. They are further than our normal OX10 patch, about 18 miles from central Oxford, so travel is usually £20 rather than £10.

We can usually reach both, including for emergency lockouts at night, smart lock faults and patio door locks. If another locksmith closer to Reading would get to you much faster at that moment, we will say so honestly rather than keep you waiting. Smart lock and keypad repairs are £75 to £145, the same as anywhere else we cover.

Before You Call a Wallingford Locksmith

If you are locked out, check every door and window first, including the back door and any garage with internal access. If someone vulnerable is inside, or a bath or hob is running, call 999 straight away. Our locked out checklist walks through the rest.

When you ring us, have your full address and postcode ready, a rough idea of the door type and whether the key is lost or just inside. We will ask for ID or a letter with your address when we arrive. Every figure we quote comes from our published price list.

Nearby, our Abingdon OX14 page covers Culham and Clifton Hampden across the river, and all our areas are listed on the areas we cover page.
