For Vauxhall key replacement in Oxford, we come to your Corsa, Astra, Insignia, Mokka or Vivaro, cut a new key, code it to the immobiliser and test it at the car, usually the same day. Spare keys start from £90, flip and remote keys from £120, keyless fobs from £160 and all keys lost from £170.

Vauxhall flip keys are probably the most commonly broken key we deal with, and very often the fix is a new case rather than a new key. Tell us your registration and what has gone wrong and we will tell you which it is before we travel. Every other make is listed on our Oxford car key replacement page.

The Vauxhalls we cut keys for most around Oxford

Vauxhall has been one of Britain’s best selling brands for decades, so there are a lot of them on Oxfordshire streets, from older Corsas used by students and first time drivers to Insignias on company leases and Vivaro vans parked outside building sites in Didcot and Kidlington.

The letter after Corsa or Astra matters to us because it tells us the key generation. If you are not sure which one you have, the registration is enough for us to look it up.

Why do Vauxhall flip keys snap, and is a new case enough?

The classic Vauxhall flip key from the Corsa D and Astra H era has a spring loaded blade that pivots on a small pin. After a few years of daily flicking, the pin wears, the blade flops sideways, or the plastic around it cracks and the whole key splits in two. Buttons wearing through the rubber is the other common complaint.

The good news is that the expensive parts, the transponder chip and the remote circuit board, usually survive. In that case we move them into a new shell and cut the blade to match your locks, which costs less than a full replacement and needs no recoding. If the board itself is damaged, for example after a trip through the washing machine, we make a new remote key and code it.

People often ask us for Vauxhall keys cut as if it were a key kiosk job. A plain cut blade will open the doors on most Vauxhalls but will not start the engine, because the chip has to be coded too. Mechanical cutting on its own is £35 to £55 and is useful for a spare door key, but it is not a working car key.

The Vauxhall security code and the missing Car Pass card

Older GM era Vauxhalls were sold with a Car Pass, a small card printed with a four digit security code that is needed to add keys to the immobiliser. Most owners of a ten year old Astra have no idea where it is, and that is fine. On most models from that period we can retrieve the information needed from the car itself during coding.

For some later models the process is different and depends on the year. We will tell you on the phone whether your car needs anything from you beyond the V5C and photo ID, so there are no surprises when we arrive.

Older GM Vauxhalls versus the newer Stellantis models

Since Vauxhall joined the PSA group, now Stellantis, newer models share engineering with Peugeot and Citroen. That changes the key, the immobiliser and the tools we use.

GM era: Corsa D and E, Astra H, J and K, Insignia A and B, Mokka X

Flip keys with a separate chip and remote, coded through the OBD port. Keyless open and start appears on some higher trim Insignias and Astras.

Usually straightforward on site

Stellantis era: Corsa F (2019 on), Mokka (2021 on), Astra L, Grandland, Crossland

Keys and fobs closely related to the Peugeot 208 and 2008. Keyless entry is common on mid and upper trims.

Most can be done at the car; we confirm by registration

Because the technology overlaps, our Peugeot 208 and 2008 key and Citroen C3 and Berlingo key pages are worth a look if you run more than one Stellantis car.

Vauxhall van keys: Vivaro, Combo and Movano

The Vivaro has been built on three different platforms over its life, which surprises a lot of owners. Earlier vans shared their underpinnings with the Renault Trafic, the most recent with the Peugeot Expert and Citroen Dispatch. The Movano is a Renault Master relative and the newer Combo is a Berlingo cousin. Each one takes a different key, so the registration really matters for vans. Our van key replacement service covers working vans of every make if you run more than one.

For trades, we can code extra keys while we are there, so every driver has one and the original stays with the owner. That is cheaper than an all keys lost visit later on.

How a Vauxhall key replacement works at your car

  1. 1. Check the key type

Your registration and a photo of the old key, if you have one, tell us the blank and coding route.

  2. 2. Confirm ownership

V5C logbook in your name or a lease or finance letter, plus photo ID, checked before any cutting.

  3. 3. Cut and code

Blade cut to your locks, chip and remote added to the immobiliser through the OBD port.

  4. 4. Test everything

Start, central locking, boot release and any keyless function tested before you pay.

Most Vauxhall jobs take between twenty minutes and an hour once we are with the car. If the key is inside a locked Corsa, we open it first through our keys locked in car service from £85 in the daytime.

Vauxhall dealer or mobile locksmith: which suits you?

A Vauxhall dealer will make you a key, but the car normally has to get there, and with no working key that can mean a recovery truck. A mobile locksmith brings the work to the car. For a straightforward spare key on a GM era Astra the difference is mainly convenience. For a lost key on a car parked in a multi storey near Westgate, coming to the car is the big advantage.

A few of the newest Stellantis era models, or all keys lost on certain recent trims, may need dealer support. We look that up from the registration first and tell you plainly. If you still have a working key, getting a copy now through our spare car keys service is the cheapest insurance you can buy, and if a key works but the buttons do not, key and remote programming may be all that is needed.

Vauxhall car keys Questions

With us, a spare copied key is from £90, a replacement flip or remote key from £120, a keyless fob from £160 and a key when all are lost from £170. That includes cutting, coding and testing on site, with the price fixed before we travel.
Usually, yes. If the chip and circuit board are undamaged, we fit them into a new case and cut a fresh blade. It costs less than a new key and needs no coding. We can tell from a WhatsApp photo.
Not on most older models. We can normally retrieve what is needed from the car during coding. Keep the card if you have it, but its absence rarely stops the job.
Almost certainly not. The blade may open the doors, but the engine needs a coded transponder chip. Without it the immobiliser blocks starting even though the key turns.
Yes for most years. The Vivaro has used Renault and Peugeot based keys at different times, so send the registration and we will confirm the type and price before we set off.
The Corsa F shares its platform and much of its key technology with the Peugeot 208, so the coding route is similar. See our Peugeot key replacement page if you also run one.
