Travel confirmed first

Usually £20, and always agreed on the phone before we leave.

Dave Oxford Locksmith is a 24 hour locksmith for Brackley and the NN13 villages, usually arriving in 35 to 55 minutes from North Oxford, with daytime lockouts from £59 and travel usually £20, confirmed when you call. We open doors without damage wherever we can and fix the whole price before setting off.

To be clear about where we are: Brackley is in South Northamptonshire, now part of West Northamptonshire, just over the border from Oxfordshire. We are an Oxford locksmith who covers it, not a firm based in the town, and we will say so if someone closer could reach you faster.

Brackley and the NN13 villages

NN13 covers the market town and a spread of villages on all sides, some in Northamptonshire and a few across the boundaries in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

Banbury is about ten miles to the west, and the villages on that side are covered on our Banbury OX15 locksmith page. Heading south toward Oxford, our Bicester OX26 page covers the town we pass on the way. Everywhere else is on the full list of areas.

Route and arrival times from Woodstock Road to Brackley

We leave 169 Woodstock Road for the A34 at Peartree, join the M40 northbound and come off at junction 10 at Ardley. The A43 then runs north east past Baynards Green and Croughton to the Brackley roundabouts. It is somewhere between 22 and 25 miles depending on where in NN13 you are.

Turweston, Whitfield and SyreshamThrough or around Brackley40 to 55 minutes
Farthinghoe and HelmdonTowards the Banbury side40 to 55 minutes

Because the journey is mostly motorway and dual carriageway, night callouts are usually at the quick end. An accident on the M40 or a lorry problem on the A43 can change that, and we will tell you if it has.

Silverstone race days and the A43

Silverstone circuit is only a few miles up the A43 from Brackley. On the British Grand Prix weekend and other large events, traffic on the A43 can back up for miles in both directions, and that is exactly the road we use.

If you call on one of those days, we will check the traffic before giving you a time and be honest if it is going to be long. Coming in from the M40 side, the delays are usually north of the town, so Croughton and Evenley are often less affected than Syresham or Whitfield.

What kind of locks do Brackley homes have?

Brackley has grown a lot in recent decades, and the housing falls into a few clear groups, each with its own common faults.

Old town stone houses

Along the wide High Street and around the Market Place and the town hall, older stone buildings have timber doors with nightlatches and mortice locks, and some have shops below with flats above.

Usual jobs: latch repairs, BS3621 mortice upgrades, flat lockouts.

Newer estates

Large developments on the edges of town are mostly composite and uPVC doors with multipoint locks and euro cylinders, plus patio and French doors at the back.

Usual jobs: stiff handles, dropped doors, cylinder upgrades.

On the estates, a door that needs lifting on the handle to lock is a warning that the mechanism is under strain. Getting it adjusted early, £65 to £95, is far cheaper than a seized gearbox. Our composite door lock page explains why these doors move with the seasons, and many builders fit standard cylinders that are worth upgrading through our euro cylinder replacement service.

Croughton, Evenley and the villages around Brackley

Croughton. Home to RAF Croughton, a communications base used by the United States Air Force, so the area has a share of rented homes and families moving in and out. We check proof of address before opening any home, and lock changes between occupants are common.

Evenley. A village built around a large green just south of the town, with older stone cottages whose doors usually have nightlatches rather than multipoint systems.

Turweston, Whitfield, Syresham and Helmdon. Smaller villages with a mix of old stone cottages, farm buildings and barn conversions. Outbuildings, gates and garages often have their own locks, which we change in the same visit. If a shed or gate padlock key has gone, our padlock removal service deals with it, with proof that it is yours.

Shops, offices and flats above them in the town centre

The broad High Street and Market Place are lined with independent shops, cafes, pubs and offices, many with flats on the upper floors reached by a separate street door or a yard at the back. Those shared entrances bring their own problems: a communal door that will not latch, a lost key for a rear yard gate, or a tenant who has moved out without returning keys.

For shop and office lockouts we charge £89 to £129 and check you have authority to enter before opening. Staff leaving, a lost shop key or a back door that no longer locks properly are all covered on our commercial locksmith page, and every job comes with an itemised invoice for your records.

Car keys and car lockouts in Brackley

We are a mobile auto locksmith too, so we can make a car key at your driveway in Brackley rather than you arranging recovery to a dealer. Spare keys start from £90 and all keys lost from £170, with the V5C and photo ID checked before we start. See our car key replacement page for key types and prices.

For keys locked inside a car, daytime openings start from £85. If a child or pet is shut in, call 999 first.

Before you call a locksmith in Brackley

  • Check every door, window and any garage with access into the house.
  • Find out whether a neighbour or relative holds a spare. It may save you the callout entirely.
  • Have your postcode ready. Some NN13 addresses are in villages miles from the town, and it changes the time we give.
  • Ask the travel cost before agreeing. Ours is usually £20 for Brackley and stated on the phone.

Our guide to finding a reliable locksmith explains what a fair quote looks like. When you ring, we give a fixed price from our published list, and evening or weekend openings are £79 to £99.
